ASUS a7v 133

Windows 98se
512 mb crucial ram
3D Prophet 2 Ultra
DX 8a
Philips acoustic edge
Western digital 40 gig

would I be able to even notice the differance if I overclocked to 1100 mghz, is it worth the wear on the cpu?

I doubt that you will *notice* anything...if you use 3DMark2001 to test the performance of your system...you might gain a hundred or more points...but you honestly won't see a difference.

If you have a relatively NEW cpu, I bet it will run 1100MHz without a sweat and will not shorten the life of the cpu. Plus, you may be able to run it at 1200MHz or more with good cooling.

BUT, there are risks. If you don't want to take them, then don't overclock. When I first got my new computer, I did NOT want to "break" anything, so I did not overclock. I just recently got a new heatsink (Alpha PEP66) and connected my L1 bridges so I could overclock my cpu. My computer is running as stable as it ever has and I have a feeling of accomplishment (1.1GHz to 1.2GHz). Now days, most computer hardware is so easy to install that it takes SOME of the fun out of owning a computer. Overclocking kind of fills the void.
