Is it really worth it to get a PS2 this late in its life?

I just bought a new PS2 Slim as well. I've never owned one but my sister likes the games on the PS2 and I got it for only $135 shipped. I never buy consoles when they first come out anymore because I don't care too much about the hype around PS3 and XBOX.
