Firstly sorry for the long novel below,
I am not into OC. and how much gain can I get after OC. I am a noob in this and insted of reading lengthy articles about OC, I would love to hear from you guys in simple terms.
so me not into OC, and Not sure if I may do OC in the new rig I am about to get. What I want to know is, would there be any drastic change in speed and performance by doing OC. Would it be wise to shell out extra $$ for hardware for OC ? 😕

Also I would like you to suggest a best CPU (i5 or i7) and best mobo chipset if I am not going for OC. Cause like i said earlier, I am a bit LAzy to do that🙄

I would say the potential overclocking improvement is good, but with many other things, the benefit is harder to achieve as you tend to reach higher value. For instance, overclocking Intel K processors is ridiculously simple for the first few hundred MHz and gets much harder and somewhat bound to luck as you reach higher values. There's definitely a benefit, the question is how hard are you ready to work to achieve it (and "how lucky are you with your CPU" remains a question at any time).

What do you intend to do with your computer? Gaming? If so, what games do you intend to play, and at which resolution? The big question that you need to answer first of all is: will there be any potential benefit to overclocking, or will you just be increasing performance for no visible gain?

Yes, its mainly for gaming. I wanted to know if there are any potential benifits by doing OC. I am going to buy an i5 or i7 procy. and I have not done OC till now and have no idea about it. so if iam doing OC, would there be any big difference or a step ahead of a system without OC.

For gaming you dont need i7. And difference between OC and non OC depends very much on the application/game.

What about changing the perspective here - instead of looking at this as trying to achieve an end goal of the overclock, what about thinking of it as beginning a journey of starting a new aspect of your hobby? Treat the overclocking as a journey of enjoying the computing hobby at a deeper level. Then, all aspects of learning and applying become part of enjoying that hobby.

In simple terms, if you have enough money and are looking to build a good gaming rig the difference in cost will be about $45 to OC...and the maximum performance gain your likely to see would be about 15% real world.

But this is for a rig that costs $1000 and up, and for such a small difference in the total cost most people choose to go with the OC parts just in case they may use them sometime in the future.

How do I come to this conclusion? Generally the i5 3570 is accepted as the best gaming CPU. There are two versions, one that can overclock a little and one that can overclock a lot. The one that can overclock the most is the "K" version. It costs $10-15 more than the lesser version. That's pretty much it...add a nicer cooler for about $30 when you OC. But even if you don't OC you may want a better cooler anyway, its quieter and more efficient.

There are of course different MOBOs, but if your building a good gaming rig you'll already want to have a good quality MOBO with a decent amount of features...whether you OC or not. Its kinda like buying a high end sports car, even if you aren't gonna tune it for more speed your already gonna spend money on good tires, it'd just be stupid and dangerous to try to get cheap $30 Walmart tires.

Now if your spending less money than that, all the Intel CPUs are the same, there is no OC "K" versions at lower price points. You just get what you get. All their i5 CPUs can OC 400MHz with the right chipset. Its basically a free OC for those who know how.

If your building a rather budget gaming rig, then AMD may be your choice, and in that case all their CPUs can OC...not really any difference in cost here either.
