One of my buddies was having problems with his crappy NEC 333A slot 1 box (onboard sound, Rage II crapgraphics) that I have done work on before. Now I knew that this board (with 1 jumper for config) was set for the highest celeron processor it could handle, went 233 to 333. He took it to a small Computer store and they said he had a bad processor and charged him for a 533! and told him they had to UNDERCLOCK IT! Now, i'm thinking this thing had a LX Pci set(not sure), would a Bios update allow them to do such an large processor change? or do you think they had a way to just set the board to 100 bus? I'm going to go over and see it sometime this week and I figured out how to know right away how to know if the ripped him off (no 533 slot1 duh). Anything i'm not getting here?
