Has anyone ever tried to connect two cable modems to a PC using two NIC's. I believe Win2k might support it but I am not sure.

Ive never heard of such a thing, but what would be the point of it? The bandwidth you get on a cable modem is dependant on the people in your area on the same hub.

I tried it, but since my ISP doesn't support more than one IP from each location, it didn't work.

I believe that Win2k Adv Server has support for this, but I'm not certian. I know that it is possible with linux though.

Very possible but a router would be required and your speeds would be dependent upon your uses.

It would not help with a single download but with multiple requests it would speed you up.

Thanks everyone..... I have two cable modems and two IP's. I realize I have a 3M DL cap that I almost never reach regardless of which modem I use, but I am more interested in testing to see what would happen if I pulled files down using two IP's. Would it in any way be similar to a multi threaded (I think that is the term) download?

This is more of an experiment. Right now I am moving cards around on the MB. It doesn't like the second NIC.

Howdy Texun,

I don't know of a way to do exactly what you want, however this would be interesting: http://www.nexland.com/products/product.cfm?id=4

It is a router with dual broadband ports and load balancing. Although a single download won't go faster, multiple ones will be divided. So if you are downloading a bunch of files, or you have a bunch of people downloading files (even webpages - those are files too) it will grab data from both connections.

Outstanding, Mr. PHATJACK

Great catch. My guess is the reason it is $400 is because they have the only box in town like that.

Thank 'ya much

Glad to be of help. I believe they are the only ones who offer anything like that. Also, I heard a rumor somewhere (not sure if its true) that they were considering releasing a 4 port model.

you can always use software to multiplex to cable lines but it's kind of a pain in the @ss or so i hear. most *nix os's can do this.
