Is it possible to use my desktop as a sort of USB hard drive?

I just got a new laptop and want to primarily use my desktop as storage since it has a lot of disk space unlike my laptop. Would it be possible to set up my desktop as a pseudo-usb hard drive instead of having to use networking?

If you are just using the desktop for storage, networking would make more sense..just share the drive on the desktop, and map the drive to the laptop, so it will just show up as another drive in My Computer on the laptop. Don't think what you want to do is really possible. I mean, you could technicaly connect your laptop to your desktop via USB, but it would still be networking, not show up as like an external USB drive to your laptop..

hmm well I have been reading about the USB file transfer links, are those any good? I've read some bad reviews about it and is giving my hesitation.

Stevty is correct. A network is a network is a network. Most new laptops have built-in wireless capability. I have one and two desktops. I simply added a wireless card to my desktops and then let Windows build the network.

That experience makes travel with the laptop easy - many hotels have Wi-Fi as do airports, etc. It is growing.

You could connect a USB link like this:

USB

But wireless is growing rapidly - and is the path I would follow.

As an alternative, why not just get an external USB harddrive that can me moved to any computer as needed?
