Is it possible to use an old digital camera as a webcam?

I have an old canon SD450 lying around that probably won't get more than $30 on ebay. Is there a way to use it as a webcam for chatting on skype?

i just assumed that since a digital camera can take pretty decent quality video there would be a way to hack it into a webcam. guess not.

Hacking is harder than you think it is.

Mine only records up to 30 second video, so it may be storing to internal memory then copying to the SD card when complete. But even a continuous copy would be a lot to hack it into a webcam.

I thought all digicams could do this? All the ones I've owned can except my DSLR.

Just install the software for it and hook it up via USB. It should be one of the options. You should be able to find it's manual online in case you can't find yours. Also this should have been in peripherals methinks.

IIRC CHDK should be able to do webcam. CHDK can unlock a LOT of potential on essentially any Canon, and yours is supported.
