Is it possible to tell modern OSes not to cache thumbnails?

There is the clear cache option in the gui. I am sure you could find it buried in the registry, or in group policy editor if you have pro.

My question would be, why would you want to do this? Do you like the extra time it takes to reload icons every time you access the desktop or a new file window?

Hey, is it possible to tell ... Linux versions and such to not cache thumbnails?
Most likely. At least on some desktop managers. I presume.

I have to presume, although I have no thumbnails. I don't have any GUI file manager installed, and thus no place that requires thumbnails. Not the same thing, obviously.

Wait, are we talking about the "iconcache", or "thumbs.db"? It's really rude of Windows to write thumbs.db to external media, just because you want to browse it in thumbnail mode (or it automagically defaults to that view mode).

Hello,

Hey, is it possible to tell current Windows versions, and Linux versions and such to not cache thumbnails?
In Slacko Puppy Linux, the file manager (ROX) does not cache thumbnails by default

But you turn the feature on if you want, here's what it's Option menu sort of looks like:

This isn't an OS feature; it is an application feature. On linux you have to disable it application by application. On windows - no clue I avoid windows 'cept for games.

You can disable creation of thumbnails under performance options on Windows. I don't know if this affects the creation of a cache.
