Is it possible to spend 500 on a laptop?

My gf's parents want to spend 500 on a laptop for their younger daughter for school, she liked the HP amd laptop that was 800 at bestbuy, can it be had for 500???

You can get a used laptop for $500. Sometimes, you might be able to get a new notebook for about $700 after rebates.

Yes, used. Cheapest new ones I've seen go for 600-700$.

I don't know if it's kosher to link to this site, but there's a deal out there for an Inspiron 1100 for $454 after rebates. It looks like it's kinda complicated to qualify for, but there you go.
