Is it possible to scratch your rims against the curb?

yes it is friend trying to escape from cops(for speeding) in an integra took a courner at 40 and hit the curb kinda and scratched his metal rims

he did get away though

Yes, it's very easy to do, unfortunately. :( Tires will give and bam, you've curbed a rim.

When I can I generally park about 5" from the curb for the best of both worlds. Partial profiling and rim longevity.

I'm paranoid about that- I always go realllly slow when parallel parking, and have never scratched my rims that way...

I did go 'off-roading' once when my tires lost grip through a turn, and went up a curb :( scraaaaaaaatch. Eek

Been there... done that. I jsut got a 1994 F150 wiht the aluminum rims. I am not proficient on sharp turns yet, and I cut one too sharp. THe front got to the curb and up on it. I got home, was about to go in, and I decided to chekc it out. Damn near tore out the WHOLE sidewall and got into the rim a bit (not enuf that I couldnt smooth and buff it out). I got lucky I made it home. Had to get that one replaced. Was a new tire too... damn it.
