Is it possible to scratch your rims against the curb?

Awfully easy to do. If you have alloy rims, it can be pretty expensive. Believe me...I had an unfortunate experience with a curb and my $700 rim in my late teens a while back...

5 inches?.....I would have to say no unless of course you using those low rider tires that have virtually no side wall.

If the curb was higher then it's definitely possible.....I've done it quite a few times in my attempts to parallel park into a tight spot.

Drive into a curb at an acute angle and the tires will deform but the rims won't. A telltale screeching sound will tell you if you are doing it right (or wrong as the case may be).

yes, you can. Do your rims stick out farther than the wheel. mine do about .5 of an inch, so it is possible for me to vurb mine, havent yet, though =]

It's possible, I had my rims scratched unfortunately due to hitting the curb just a little bit while I was parking...must be more careful next time.

<< 5 inch? is this a car? I'm using 18 inch wheels. >>

5 inch curb genius.
id think the tire would stop it firs, given the angle, and size of the rims.

it's possible... but only in cars with smaller tires.
it's hard to do on a mid sized sedan, but in a compact with small wheels (like a corolla).
smaller wheels won't climb over the curb if you hit it, so all it does is deform the tire and hit the rims. on a larger car with larger wheels, usually you just climb the curb.

mind you that you'll have to be pretty dumb to scratch your rims...
*hint*: if your car stops suddenly when backing into a parallel spot, chances are... you hit the curb. now you have 2 choices: 1) try to accelerate and risk scratching your expensive rims. 2) or back it out and try again!

you make the call!

Very possible with low profile tires. I've seen many a rim dinged up by a curb.

I've whammed my Corsica with nice alloy rims(it seems a waste, but they came with the car) against curbs, no problem. My fiance scuffed her Civic a little against a curb, and those stock rims (whatever they are made of) got a few extra scratches..

So, it depends.

Psst, the curb is most likely 6 inches. 6 inches is pretty standard, it's measured from the bottom of the pan on the gutter to the top of the curb. (it's rounded so it's hard to measure it).

Rubber deforms, hit a curb and the sidewall will deform and let the rim hit concrete. Only possible way to avoid it would be if your tires from bottom of tread to rim were greater than 6", my guess would be in some pickups that is true, most likely in any car it would no.

Sure is possible. Ask my buddy that has curbed two of his BBS wheels. He was steaming after the first, but didn't learn his lesson, so he had to do it again on a different rim. Big whoops.

It doesn't cost nearly as much, but it's even easier to take out hubcaps because they usually stick out farther. My mom has lost the two right hubcaps on her station wagon. :) MY hubcaps are in perfect condition.

Are you bragging that you have hubcaps, or that they are in perfect condition?
