Is it possible to remove the taskbar without..

I am aware that you can auto hide it, but is there a way to totally get rid of it or only have it appear when hitting the windows button?

No, it's part of the explorer shell.

you can resize it to nothing. it leaves a sliver at the bottom, and when you press the windows key, the menu appears, but not in the usual place. the bar doesnt pop up at all.
