is it possible to play divx movies in Dreamcast?

I remember a while back (a year maybe) there were plans to make a divx player for the dreamcast. I was wondering if that plan has finally come to fruition?

I'd like to play a few movies on the Dreamcast, i believe it is powerful enough to do the job.

yeah it is. there is a player for it out on the net somewhere. my friend use to have it. I think he did at least or was it the vcd player...

It plays most everything kinda choppy.

I think I got the player I tried out from DCCopyWorld.com

However, it would get pretty choppy trying to play some higher quality files. Your mileage may vary though.

the divx player for dreamcast sucks as it is very choppy and can only play videos of a max res of like 320x240 or something.

There was one called DCDivX. The official page is www.dcdivx.com. I think it does only support limited resolution as PCMarine mentioned.

oh ok. so they haven't optimized it for DC hardware I guess. Ah well, sucks. I was really hoping on playing some DivX movies (got some awesome old Bruce Lee films) on the tv.

I bought a DVD player that plays DivX movies. It was only $30 @ sears. (reconditioned)

If you re-encode the media correctly it'll play quite nicely on the dreamcast with DCDivX.

There's a decent guide for this here.

The audio quality is more of a problem than the video. It's not especially bad though.

XBOX cost money. I'm trying to see if I can do it for free. If not, I just won't watch it on TV..simple as that

my bad, I just looked it plays raw files, but not divx. Sorry to get your hopes up.

my bad, I just looked it plays raw files, but not divx. Sorry to get your hopes up.
