Of course you can oppose gays. It is becoming increasingly socially unacceptable to do so so opposing gays publicly could be problematic. It is similar (though not identical) to interracial marriage, there are still people that are opposed to it but they keep that mostly on the down low. Whether it is worth the risk of social blow-back is up to you.

I believe homosexual is not a protected class so I think you can still sort of get away with discrimination if you want to oppose gays in a more explicit manner. On the flip side it hasn't stopped lawsuits so you'd have to be prepared for that.

I don't know if you are Catholic but those guys view birth control as unnatural. So if you use birth control you are unnatural and going against God, way to go!

There are plenty of places where gay rights activism is pretty much nonexistent.

It's certainly possible. It's not an easy thing, but everyone needs a hobby. Personally if I wanted to oppose some permanent and widely accepted part of modern society I'd go after something less controversial like brooms or doorknobs. Something less offensive than some of my fellow humans.

There are plenty of windmills to tilt at and plenty of time to do it (provided your time is not valuable in any way).
