Is it possible to make XLR cable with two conductors?

I want to use two conductor wire to make an xlr extention cable.....it's mono, so i was thinking i should connect pins1 and 3(i think that's right, the non-ground one)......and then that would work just fine?

It will work... it will buzz at 60Hz, but it will work. Suit yourself.

Is there anyway to get it so it doesn't buzz?

He said he wants to "to use two conductor wire", so I assume it doesn't have the shield. Besides, that the third wire is what is canceling the noise in a balanced audio connection, not the shield. I'm also assuming in his application that he doesn't have a balanced connection at one end, so that issue is moot. The shield (properly grounded) is his only hope of stopping the noise.

Balanced vs. Unbalanced Audio Connnections
