Is it possible to make dual cores behave like one super single core?

I was wondering if something like reverse hyperthreading was possible. That is, to make a dual core cpu behave like a single core. So say a dual core processor with cores at 2.0 ghz each and somehow make them perform like 4ghz.

Well I suppose you could just disable one of the cores, super-cool & super-overclock the hell out of it so it is exactly a single core 4GHz...

yeah, just split a single thread into 2 parallel threads for each core... hmmm wait, that IS multi-threading... i think i'm going in circles...
