Is it possible to make a new partition on an already formatted drive?

I have a laptop running MCE that i would like to experiment with Linux on...i want to create a seperate partition, are there any tools for that?

Will Partition magic work?

I believe you might be able to split a partition with diskpart.exe. Great little program that already comes in Windows. You might want to check it out.

Save some cash and download the Ulitimate Boot CD. On the CD are several partition managers. Also search sourceforge.net and you will find many open source linux or dos based programs that will get the job done for free. My experieces with partition magic were a mixed bag. The biggest annoyance was the intentional limitaion of how big of a drive they would allow you to partition. For $80 they only let me size up a 160GB drive and this was at a time when 250GB's were common and 300GB was just coming to market. Since symantec bought out powerquest, things have not gotten much better.

Alternatively, if you are willing to spend $80 on partition magic, you would be better off buying a second HDD for the same price.
