So I'm getting a Texas license. Unfortunately I was unable to do this before my MO license expired (long story ... ) so I have to retake the test.
Yesterday, waited at a DMV or DPS or whatever in Houston for ~2 hours, took the written test, and was told "come back here no later than 6 am to wait in line until 7:30, when we open, to sign up for a time slot to take the test."
Well, i thought, screw that. Instead this morning I drove to the DPS in Fort Bend, figuring that there would be less screwing around in a rural town (about a 45 minute drive). I had to take my roommate's car, though, because my battery was this morning connected to a trickle charger and wasn't ready to start my car.
Anyway, I get out there to take the test, only to find out that my roommate carries his insurance card on his person and they wouldn't give me the test.
Well, there's half a day wasted. Not all is lost, though, they gave me an afternoon time slot as a sort of sick consolation prize. By this point my battery is ready so i take my car. I get to the DPS, during the pre test inspection it turns out that my State Inpection sticker claims that it expires on the 8th month of 2004 because the douchebags at the inspection place switched the fields. I have the inspection certificate that has the correct date, but noooo, you can't pass a car with a typo on the sticker.
This is the angriest I've been in quite some time ... I can't clear a day again until Monday, and I guess I'll take my roommates car and his insurance crap. After that it's time for a pleasent little chat with the manager of the place that inspected my car.
and hell, I've got to be doing all this on an expired license. When I realized that my sticker was telling every cop in sight that I was almost 4 years expired I nearly sh!t myself.
goddam beuarocrats.
