My computer decided not to boot today, so I'm doing a reinstall on a new HD, but I can't find my office key code. Is there any way to get the key code from a file? I can get access to the drive through a boot disk.

Call up microsoft and ask them. If you have some of the oriiginal packaging/cd's you might be able to get a new code.

You might be able to boot into Windows using a Windows Ultimate Boot CD and then use the Jellybean key finder to find the Office cd key.

If I could find them thats where it would be, but I lost the discs figured I could borrow some from work and use my key...as soon as I find it. Tried the jellybean thing, but only pickedup the windows key for the current install(reinstalledon a new HD)

I think Belarc finds MS Office Keys also.

Well I tried Belarc but it didn't find it (i'm assuming since it was on a different install). Anyway I dug around the house for another hour and finally found the discs and the code so lots of trouble for nothing. Going to use Belarc to keep a backup of the keys though now:D

Retail, oem, nfr, academic, keys, etc. are not interchangeable.

Having the same problem. I lost my sn, it is installed now, but I need to re-install, upgrading to XP Pro finally. And I don't have the sn :(

Edit: Got it. Belarc free advisor app got it.
