I'm running win98se.
Is it possible to force a game that insists on running in fullscreen into a windowed mode? If so how?
Tried all I knew to do--Alt+Enter; Alt+Space--neither work. I can Alt+Tab out of game but if I do, it game drops me back to Desktop when I reenter game.
also tried -w after exe-didnt work either.

Any help appreciated.

Yes, insulting us is the best way to get an answer

Anyway, if you're running a game windowed versus full screen, Your computer needs to work harder to render the game itself along with everything in the background at the same time. So it's better to alt+tab out of full screen mode anyway.

But, yeah... insult us and you won't get jack crap for help.

Umm-I waited a full day after posting my question without getting a single response.
What else was I to think except it was too Technical for this board-humm?

No intention of Insulting anybody at all. Then look at your reply-and then go read my question!
You obviously did not understand my question because your reply was completely irrelevant to my problem. Now,without any intention of insulting anyone--it still appears the question is too technical for this board.

I asked an honest question. After waiting 24 hrs and receiving no reply I made a second post which was a logical 'assumption'. There was no insult whatsoever implied in my post. It was a statement of perceived FACT!

Then I get a reply from someone who insinuated my post WAS insulting (wonder why, since he did not respond to the first post anyway) and, who,Obviously, did not understand my Question because his answer was completely irrevelant to my posed question.

And then, you,an AnandTech Moderator, have to chime in with your insult.

I have been a Supporter and Suscriber to AnandTech since it began in 1997. I have highly recommended it to Dozens of my Colleagues in the Medical Profession. That was the FIRST post I have ever made on the Community Forums . Perhaps Management will be interested to see just how well their Suscribers are treated. We will see-

BTW-after posting my question on the SE Forum I had my answer within 15 mins.

If the DOS app your running needs to use any non-text graphics mode it MUST be run full screen. All versions of Windows are like this and there is nothing that can be done about it.

Is this a 3d game? - one that relies on a 3d videocard? Generally, that sort of game can not be run in windowed mode simply because of the way the 3d rendering works.

As for the whole "Umm-ok, it seems the question was a bit too technical for this board. " thing, he was probably frustrated with it, ok? And being a new member, it's probably that reagan doesn't know the "traffic patterns" around here - the Technical Support forum tends to be one of the lesser traveled ones here; General Hardware is frequented most often, but the mods do prefer that Tech support questions stay in here. I usually use my signature as a place to keep links when I need help, as you can see below. :)

If the guy who coded the game made it to run only in full screen mode, you won't be able to run it in windowed mode.
