First of all, you will need DVD-Rs and a DVD burner. Right now, it's not worth the price IMO.

I have that stuff at my work, so it is worth it. What can I use for software, any ideas.

<< You need a dual layered DVD recorder. >>

Correct and even if there were a dual layer burner, which there is not, you would still have to have some way to boot it.

Xbox pirating isn't working.. yet. Time will tell if the system can be cracked, modded, or need a boot disk, etc. Everyone said the DC GD-ROMs couldn't be duped, but they were wrong. We'll know for sure if the Xbox's games can be duped within about a year.

I actually think the Xbox is pretty hack proof because of the dual layered DVD's. To make one would be extremly expensive like it has already been said plus you would need a boot disk. So not goign to happen in the near future.

Vash is right. All of these things were said of the PS2 and DC when they were released.

Give 6-12 months for the console to get into general circulation, and then watch the hacks appear... :) :)

<< Noone here has said a word about piracy. >>

Yer right. But, for some reason, I think people are more interested in "free" games than burning legit back-ups.

Possibly, but that isn't the original poster's question.

Backing up games you own isn't a crime.

It isn't a crime, of course. But I know from experience that the majority of people
that "backed up" their DC and PSX games weren't doing it so that they could
keep their originals in a locked safe. Call me cynical if you will.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but I don't think it's fair for me to label someone a pirate simply because they might be asking a question that might be taken to be associated with piracy.

It may not be feasible to copy xbox games...but that doesn't mean they won't be able to make an emulator. I mean the xbox OS is a stripped down version of Windows. And the hardware it practicly generations away from what is out now for computers. I wouldn't be surprised if you could rip th eos of the xbox now and play it on yur computer. all you would really need is a dvd-rom and a good graphics card.

Microsoft should sell an Xbox emulator for PC users and skip the dumb boxes. They're losing a bundle on the hardware and hoping to make it back on SW royalties. They should just take the royalty $$$ and skip the money losing. I've got an AthlonXP 1800+ and a GF3Ti200. That's pretty much what's in the Xbox.

how about this - a program to rip the xbox game to an image on hard drive space. network this pc with the xbox's ethernet, then someone makes a boot disk for xbox that allows it to read the game from a network drive instead of dvdrom.. would be faster loading that way too right? 100mb eth. faster than dvd read spead?

Whoever's had kids playing with their console, and seen with dread how they exchange discs, would love to have a backup of GT3!!!! If they don't want me making backups, they should let me take a damaged disc back to Best Buy and pay a $5 "handling" fee for a new one!

Sounds like parents are ducking responsibility for their kids' video games again.
If parents taught kids how to handle them PROPERLY: Like putting them back
into the case right after you take it out of the console.

i am really worried about my xbox games getting messed up.. my little sisters play their games and they are reckless anyway and i worry they will scratch my halo disc or others :( at $50 a pop right now I would really be pissed if one got damaged. wish they made scratch resistant (or scratch proof better yet) dvds

Hmm, either it was just me, or i did notice some Xbox iso advertisements in IRC and a few in Direct connect. I'm not too sure though, because i was looking into Dreamcast is....backups :D

And yes, Ps2 games are downloadable. So far i've seen Gran Turismo, GTA3, and one other i think.
