is it possible to buy nvidia M cards for laptops?

I got this laptop off a friend and the graphics are all messed up. Nothing works, not the monitor, not the external monitor. Sometimes it boots up as far as Windows but then the screen gets all sorts of artifacts and freezes up too.

It's a Dell M1330 with I'm guessing an Nvidia 8400M card in it. I was wondering if it's possible to buy these anywhere so I could replace it and see if that's the problem.

Thanks for any replies! :)

See if it's covered under the nVidia recall - a lot of those GPUs failed and they issued a massive recall on affected laptops.

The GPU is soldered to the motherboard on those laptops. Only way to replace the GPU is to replace the motherboard.

The only mobile GPU's you can replace independently are the ones found in higher-end gaming laptops. GPU's like 8800M 9800M 9700M etc.

@masteryoda34: Yeah I was worried that might be that case.

@Denithor: Any leads on where I might find info on the recall? And how to identify if this card is affected by it?
