Is it possible to buy motherboard trays?

I was thinking of how cool it would be to build custom cases out of wood and varnish them and what not. Only thing that would be too hard to make from wood is the motherboard tray. It it possible to buy metal ones seperately somewhere? Seen some with the slot portion too but that's not always good if making a low profile case. I want to build a HTPC case at some point and wood is the easiest to work with (and I could make it match the furniture!)

Yes you can. Lian li sell a replacement tray for the PC-6X series of cases:

Its pricey though.

There's quite a few links for motherboard trays on eBay (mainly for Compaq and Dell cases) - you can possibly find one which suits your needs.

Or buy a cheap case with a removable tray and remove the tray.

$30 for a well made mobo tray isn't that bad.

If OP is building a PC out of wood, I'd assume that they are going to spend a little bit of $ on it to make it look good. If thats the case, then I'd just get the Lian Li.

Yeah 30 bucks is not too bad. Never even thought of ebay. I'd just have to be sure to buy it first so I can plan the design around it.

I also thought of just using some kind of small plastic tubing then just screw the motherboard with regular wood screws, but probably best to have a metal grounded backing just in case. Will be a while till I can afford this project anyway, just something cool I thought of.
