Is it possible to build a C2D system with $1,000?

This new system would require a case, mobo, cpu, heatsink/fan, memory, hard drives, dvd-rom/rw, etc. Is it feasible to assume $1k would be enough for a gaming machine?

Sure but no monitor.

I can get a mobo, 2GB DDR2-800, and E6400 for about $630 shipped. Then you can get a $150case. $150 PSU. $60 SATA HDD, $40 DVDRW and use the Intel stock fan or get a AC Freezer for around $30.

This all comes up to around $1030 without shipping. I just guessed at the prices and you can get a cheaper case too.

Thanks I really appreciate it. I'm going to be building my cousin a new computer in a few months. I told him to save up at least a grand and that we can put something together really nice. I'm definitely going with an Intel C2D setup :)

So where do I plug in the monitor for this system?

if you happen to work for retail or know anyone working for retail, you can try the intel retail edge.

$220 for e6300, intel mobo, vista ultimate
