Is it possible to boot a MAC into Vista directly? Not dual booting.

I was wondering if it's possible to basically turn MAC hardware into a Vista Machine?

I know I could dual boot it but am not interested in that for what I'm trying to do.

From what I recall, since the Mac uses an EFI Bios, you can't just format the system and pop in a Vista cd and be on your way. You still need Bootcamp to emulate a PC Bios on the system so that you can run Vista/XP in bootcamp. And you can only install bootcamp if you have an Intel Mac running Leopard.

I suppose once you have bootcamp set up, you could delete the OSX Partition, but I'm not sure how well it would work, if at all. The software for the PC Bios emulation may very well be contained on the OSX Partition, but I am not sure.

If I was OP, what I would do is boot into OS X, run the boot camp setup, and just partition off the vast majority of the drive for Windows. You'll lose like 10GB of your HD space to keep a OS X partition, but it's one of those 'You never know' cases for me. Then just set the startup disk to windows permanently and it will be like OS X doesn't exist, unless you hold down the option key and boot in to it on purpose.
