Think about it. Our brains are made up of neurons which can be thought of a very primitive processing units. All these neurons are connected to each other in a complex network. All they do is sum up their inputs from other neurons and if the sum is greater than a threshold, fire off an impulse. The connections between neurons are constantly adjusted with weights so that some inputs to neurons are given greater effect in the sum of all inputs.
From a wider view, we see all these neurons going off and on, creating complex patterns and sequences.
And from this complex system, arises the consciousness of man!
Now, think of each person as a complex processing unit. We are all connected to each other in a complex network. We're becoming more connected because of the internet, TV, telephone, face to face communications, etc. We constantly adjust the 'weight' of these connections -- for example, I give more weight (importance, trustfullnesss etc) to communication from close family members than to a random discussion forum and I try to increase my 'weight' to others by trying to make others think similiarly to me (Xbox 360 is better than the PS3 and here are my reasons for thinking this).
From a wider viewpoint, the "activities" of each human might look like a complex pattern and sequence. For example, when 9/11 occurred, we saw a flurry of activity in communications centered in the US and pulsating back and forth from other areas like Europe and the Mideast.
As our population grows and the network/communication is increased, could it be possible for a higher consciousness to arise? Is this higher consciousness -- God?
And this higher consciousness will have access to all our records (we have computers and databases storing everything about us -- date of birth, blogs, photographs) so it's quite possible for this higher consciousness to "recreate" us in his mind. In a sense, we can be reborn in a simulated world in the higher consciousness's mind.
