From what I can remember IPs are like finger prints, nobody has the same exact IP at any given time, right?

Sounds about right to me. The only difference between ips and fingerprints, is that one person can have multiple by masking their ips with different programs.

AOL uses proxies, so it will seem like a lot of AOL users are using the same IP addresses.

key word: PUBLIC.

there are only unique PUBLIC IPs so that they can effectively be used to create a useable topological map so that data can flow where it needs to go and get there.

OF course, private IPs are another matter.

keep in mind that it is about 6am so most of what I spout at this hour is BS< but the gist of it is true:)
