<< it's pretty clear from the initial post that she, in fact, could not take it. i realize that i made the implicit assumption that she didn't have it worse than me. well, to be honest, i really don't think she had it any worse than me, because i know how much i was teased, and i think i have a pretty good understanding of how much someone would get teased over a wal-mart bag. >>

True, but the culture within high schools changes over time and depending on which high school you go to. I know that in my current high school, someone bringing in shoes in a wal mart bag wouldn't be teased that much, but I also know what other high schools around mine own are significantly worse

What? That's NOTHING, trust me. If you think that's the worst that happens, I feel really, really sorry for you.

<< I've come to the conclusion over my three years of attendance that the majority of people in HS are flat out idiots. >>

That took you three years? Unbelievable.

Well, I did graduate HS in 1978 so cut me some slack.

So fill us oldtimers in? What's the scoop?

I, like some of the other people in this thread, am experiencing high school right now. I'm in a very large school, 3000+ students. Yeah, there are some real weird people out there who get hard-ons over mocking others. But for the most part, it's not that bad. To be honest, I don't have a TON of friends, I really only have a few, but they're very dear to me. Most people, I'm just kind of indifferent too really. It's not that bad.

Middle school, on the other hand...wow, that was hell.:(

Is this possible? Have our schools devolved this badly?

bah, anyone that believes that children in schools were'nt always incredibly cruel is kidding themselves. i would make the case that its getting better. you don't pick on lil weirdo jonny now cuz he might crack and blow you away. racist cruelties are down.. i think.

I'm in Grade 9 which is smack in the middle of this sh!t. It is terrible...but, in my expirence, the people in Grade 9 are a hell of a lot more mature than Grade 7...Grade 7 was crap. People have seemed to realize that:

Don't pick on people + You won't be picked on = Happy! :D

Although there are always people who continue being bastards, but everyone hates them and tells em to f*ck off so there not much of a problem.

I'm the class clown retard entertainer guy so I probably get a lot more respect than other nerds.

I'm guessing that this person was one of the unlucky who is quiet and has been chosen as an easy person to pick on. She probably took a lot more hell than the average Joe Blow in junior high...

<< Many of you may think "You're weak if you let people get to you". Years and years of harrasment really wear you down. I've experienced in first-hand. Junior HS and HS bring back some horrible memories... >>

I guess you never learned rule one about being harrassed in HS: Kick the crap outta the first person that harrasses you, and the harassment STOPS. I experienced that first-hand, too--and I know it works.

Exactly. I don't remember most of it for that very reason. Forgetfulness my ass. Self preservation.

Oh, so things are better now because the kid you're teasing might be armed and dangerous. Man that's progress.

I liked HS. Everybody got along fine.

It probably helped that I went to a school where there weren't any spoiled brats who looked down they're nose at you because mom and dad didn't shop at the right stores or didn't belong to the right country club.

Of course it didn't hurt that it was a Catholic school and the trouble makers were expelled (in public school you have to deal with the miscreants) and others that didn't fit in left.

Unfortunately, it used to be that you'd stand up for yourself, kick the crap out of someone, and that would be it. Nowadays though, somebody gets beat up, they round up three or four friends for round two. That's the way it was at my high school, anyway.
