is it okay to use a composite rca switch as a component switch?

you know.. the switches that have yellow, red, and white for vid, and audio left and right.... will one of those work as a component switch?

'true' component switches are $100+++... what makes them so special?

Well component cables are 75 ohm...and standard rca are not. I don't know if it will blow up..but it might!

what is the resistance being measured across? the center post to the shield?

Yes, they work fine. I use a Radio Shack switch for component switching and it works great.

Line up Red -> Red, Green -> Yellow and Blue -> White.

It will work just fine. Don't buy into the 75ohm this and 100ohm that blah blah... Just use it and save your money.

guess i'll stop by radio shack this afternoon... or maybe walmart.. they sell those things right? and i've got a $9 giftcard too... score..

I bought a componet video cable and a composite A/V Cable from teh Shack (Radio Shack that is), and removed 1 connector from both. They use the exact same cable inside elctronicly and visualy.

Do i smell...snif...sniff...sniff...Bulshit?

So bascially, if you get one of those Sheilded A/V switches you should be fine.

I'm with you on using 75 Ohm cables for component video. I wouldn't use an A/V cable for component video. However, I haven't seen anything confirming or denying that the internals of a simple A/V switch can cause video signal degradation. Like I said, I use it on my system and I can't tell the difference, but perhaps my eyes aren't as critical as others'.

doesn't sound like the best idea, but who knows. get a high quality one and you probably won't have probs
