I personally don't believe spanking is an effective punishment. What are your thoughts?

I wouldn't spank my kids but I do think it's a legit form of punishment.

I thinks it's effective, I just don't think it the best or only solution. Obviously, situations may exist that alter such an approach, but I've never had one yet and hope not to need one.

You're right. If you want to encourage their development you should use a billy club.

Absolutely. I've done some stupid things in my life and paid for it with a 5 across the eye. Woudl I do that to my own child? Hopefully I've raised them well enough where it won't be warranted.

Not if you use alternate methods. Research before you spew.

Behind closed doors and at parts of their body where outsiders can't normally see.

Did I say billy club? I meant bat with nails in it.

I lived my first 9 years in Korea, and I used to get physical punishments from my mom. She would hit me on the calves or hands with a stick. Mind you, this is the norm there. We all grew up normal, and quite successful. I know hitting kids here is a taboo but I honestly don't see how little spanking here and there can be detrimental. So OP, I disagree with you.

Don't get me wrong, I am not encouraging to beat the $hit of of kids, that's wrong. But controlled disciplinary actions may help.

Little kids under 4 or 5 may need to have their fingers slapped as to warn them about something they shouldn't play with.

Normal spanking shouldnt occur until about 4 or 5.

Punching or hitting anywhere or spanking anywhere but the butt shouldnt be done.

Not until they are a smart mouthed teenager then anything goes.
