I'm sure it is safe but fido will probably hate the taste.
There is beef flavored tooth paste available for dogs. The first time you use it just let the dog get used to the taste... don't brush.
Then brush away.

Found this on a website.
Toothpaste Always use a specially formulated dog toothpaste. Because dogs can't rinse and spit after a brushing, the paste must be safe for pets to swallow. Some human toothpastes contain detergents which can irritate pets' stomachs, and, in addition, large quantities of ingested fluoride can harm pets

i usually just feed my doggy some of that dry food that supposedly helps scratch off plaque.

i would rather use toothepaste intended for dogs, just because i'm not sure what exactly is in toothpaste & how it reacts with animals. though my pup loves winterfresh gum whenever he finds it, so i bet he would enjoy downing a tube of colgate.

Heh. This reminds me when I used binaca on my cat and her mouth foamed up for hours.... funny funny..so then I panicked and started to dunk her head under water. Poor cat.
