Is it ok to run a computer upside down?

I need to put my girlfriends computer verticle instead of horizontal for a while. The problem is that its a slim Dell C520. I have a regular ATX PSU on the outside of the case to power it and the cables cant reach inside, through the top, and down to the bottom. So since the optical drive is sideways anyways, would there be any issue with simply standing the computer vertically and upside down? Since all the components are on their sides anyways and its just swapping sides, i cant see the issue, but I thought Id ask here first 😛

That's fine. You can put it in any orientation you want. The only constraint is in using the optical drive. It needs a way to hold the disc until it gets in the player.

it should be fine as long as everything is installed correctly.. hdds nowadays can (and often are, in the newer dells) upside down.

That's what I thought too and since the drive is designed to work sideways anyways (since its a vertical slim tower) it seems its all good. Thanks guys 🙂

If it's a passively cooled slim depending on what you are doing I might be a little worried about the heat buildup(I have no idea what a C520 looks like), but if it has fans it shouldn't be a problem, just don't block the vents.

The vents I know will be out of the way and the system is actively cooled (with AS5 under the stock cooler load temps are never over 55 C and the hard drive is in the high 40s. The video card (a 9600GT) is the only thing that has issues keeping cool (92C load temps with idles in the 75C area).

I will certainly keep an eye on the temps to see how things do and i thank you all for mentioning it because i never figured temps would change inside.
