Is it ok to put DDR2-800 in a DDR2-667 rated motherboard? And why?

Will this not cause any issues? I suppose the memory would just clock lower, unless you are overclocking, then I geuss it would end up letting you clock higher in the first place. But since AM2 processors have an onboard memory controller I thought memory speed was less important for AM2 anyway.

If you put DDR2-800 in a DDR2-667 motherboard it will run at 667 and should not have any issues. Just learned this in class this week.

right, but why would you? Is there sny benifit? Especially when you look at the price of DDR2 667 being cheaper.

conceivably, you could run it at ddr2-667 at higher timings. ddr2-800 5-5-5 will probably run ddr2-667 4-4-4.
