Is it ok to play MS Flight Simulator on a plane?

Just wondering...have any of you done this before and what has been the reaction from your fellow passengers/crew? Were you tasered by air marshals and handcuffed or was it no big deal?

I doubt anyone else would even notice, other than he person sitting next to you.

Why would you want to though? I'm assuming you're not bringing a joystick on the plane with you too.

It should be ok. If you do bring a joystick. You should do the same flight path as the plane you are on and pretend you are in control of the plane. Where you going?

There was an article in PC Gamer awhile ago about this, he said he did it all the time. And that was more like 3 years ago.

lol that would be funny tbh. Get a fake CB radio going and randomly blurt stuff into it.

Then when everyone is sleeping turn up the volume durring an in game engine failure yelling "may day may day!" when everyone stares weird just say "sorry, just a game".

Or worse, watch a 9/11 documentary.

Speaking of planes I'm going on one next weekend for the first time. I can't wait!

Most airplanes now have a channel on the TV that lets you listen to the radio com while in flight you could totally follow along on FS if you know the lingo.

joysticks need external power, don't they?
If it has force feedback, it's probably needs an external power brick. If not no. Just the USB port should be enough to power it.

Depending on the joystick, portability might not be an issue either. (I have the newer Saitek Cyborg X, which has the removable stick and collapsible base, so it's pretty compact when disassembled for storage.)

Erm, but then there's the whole issue of finding a laptop powerful enough to run FSX in the first place (or maybe OP's using an old version of Flight Simulator), and it's not going to look at all great on a little screen. Not sure why anyone would want to do this.

Sounds like a recipe for airsickness. Fake plane going one way, real plane going another.

You have better ideas for a 16-hour flight?

Audiobooks, actual books, movies, (or my personal favorite) RTS and FPS Games instead.
