Might be an asian thing.

A few years ago on July 4th there was a Pakistani dude doing the same thing near the local park (fireworks). I almost had a fight with him then realized its a special day and I also didnt want to appear racist.
If you're white and you have an argument with anyone non-white theres a good chance you will look like a bigot regardless of the situation.

It's not okay, but I would just move on. I don't like dealing with crazy people, or worrying about them damaging my car after I'm gone.

1.5 seconds into the video I recognized exactly which lot this was. Flushing, Queens and one of the few large lots left (paid, no less) due to over-development of housing and commerce. It's such a nightmare in that area to park that I'm amazed there are so many restaurant patrons. Maybe they all take the train in. But still, people need their chinese food/groceries too, so they trek down there anyway.

And to answer the OP, absolutely not ok to hold a spot. I don't get why people would cause/start confrontations like this anyway. When the furious party "leaves" and you've "won", you're risking your property for damage later. The two times I've yelled at someone who slid into my spot, I didn't take it either.

This happens a lot in undeveloped countries. No it’s not okay. I hope we don’t adopt this mentality in this country

It's not ok.

In my motherland of Cyprus, people just say fuck it and park on the sidewalk there.

I actually had this happen to me today at costco. first time ever.

for some reason my costco was PACKED!!! worse than xmas. we were cruising up and down the parking rows and finally found a open one. start to pulll in and some asshat is standing in it. This thread immediately came to my mind lol

so i roll down my window and tell the dude im taking the spot. he says nope. well that gets my wife fired up and she yells out her window YOU CANT DO THAT!!! lol so i pull half way into the spot and the asshat squares off on my car just like the chick int he OP video. i tell him you cant save spots now move. Asshat says no.

so i tell him i got all fucking day and put it in park. after a 2-3 min stare down i notice one of the Costco Shopping cart guys 2 spots over rounding up carts. I roll down my window and say. Hey, can you tell this guy to move? he is trying to save a spot by standing in it. the costco guy says what????? he looks at the asshat and tells him to shove off and you cant do that. dude got PISSED and flips the costco guy and me off and storms off.

lol good times.

I've never understood the parking spot war thing. Just park somewhere and hoof it already. A short walk ain't the end of the world.

Yup. I tend to park farther away just to walk a bit. Stay away from the shopping cart Corral's that people lush they're carts at, etc...

It's hard to explain. I'm not in the least bit hung up on parking spots. I tend to grab something quickly in a convenient place and I don't give a damn if it's 5 or 10 spots farther away than might be available with a little searching. I'm in good shape, can easily walk 36 holes of golf and have no trouble walking across any parking lot. BUT, if someone was standing in a spot that I was about to pull into I would not let them have it even if I didn't want it all that badly. It's just a matter of principle, getting the spot myself would not mean jack shit, but keeping the assholes from getting it that way would be very important.

My shift work job is a big advantage for this kind of stuff since I avoid stores at all costs on weekends, because I can, and just do my shopping in the week. Tons of parking!

I'll drive right on by. That person could be an armed lunatic who would blow a hole through my windshield.
