Is it ok to change CF card from digicam while it's on?

I have a kodak dc4800 and when I change the CF card while it on, occasionally the camera locks up, even though I always make sure the card isn't accessed. Is it ok the change the CF card while the camer is still on?

I do this on my Kodak DC240 all the time. Just make sure the access light is off.

well for my Samsung cheapie, it said the thing will shutdown if there's no SmartMedia inserted, so I don't think its safe. its kinda like yanking your harddrive out even when windows is idle.

I see, but this is a camera that is like 600 retail! I've swapped media on my sony digicam w/o turning it off w/o a problem.
