I remember the Menendez brothers supposedly got their shotguns there.

So I don't guess anyone ever calls their car a toy and plays around by driving

It's probably a Mossberg 500 series, they are fine. Great value.

why is everyone so sand in the vagina about calling a gun a toy? What do you think they are to people who own entire arsenals? Self defense? Come on.

I have a friend who is training to be a cop. He bought a shotgun a couple months ago and bought all the accessories for it. Guess what, he calls it his new favorite toy. :Q

Thanks to everyone else who actually gave useful answers.

Technically speaking, a shotgun is a shotgun. Some are made a bit better than others and some are a bit fancier than others but they all do the same thing. I would say buying a shotgun from wherever(as long as it's legal and legit) would be fine. The only thing you may have trouble with would be resale value(if it's a cheap brand). As far as I can remember, Mossberg is a good brand so I wouldn't think you'd have any trouble, especially if you aren't worried about possibly selling it down the road. Just get one that you like, that is comfortable, and that you can afford. :)

Because a gun is not a toy... By referring to it as a toy, to many it shows you are treating a weapon with less respect than it deserves... Its one thing when you are around others who shoot, but when its posted here on a board that has a broad range of political views, it undermines the position that you are a responsible gun owner... Your rights to own a gun are under attack daily, and there is no guarantee that you will have that right forever. Its good sense to demonstrate a responsible personna when discussing firearms and ownership in a public forum.

Sorry if it sounded like a personal attack or whatever, I didn't mean it to... But I see far too many people talking sh!t about firearms and referring to them as toys or whatever... I see people who don't shoot seeing this kind of talk and thinking that if this is what gun owners sound like, maybe there should be more and more restrictions on who should own guns. I think its a beneficial mindset to always think of a weapon as just that... a weapon

FYI : if you are in America, it is not allowable to restrict your ability to own guns, but its perfectly fine to screw you over when you're trying to buy guns.

As a serious gun lover, I have to agree. Many people think that guns are inherently bad and hearing things like this makes them cringe. Mossberg is a decent weapon, pretty good for a starter weapon.

I'm pretty sure the cops would bust me if I were to possess a Glock 18, and that it would be for possession of a banned firearm. This is Ohio...

In the People's Democratic Republic of Califoria, possession of non-bolt action rifles with a black stock is a crime. OK, I simplified that a smidge, but that is more or less the legal definition CA uses for "assault rifles".

Seriously, you need to get that sand out of your vagina and pull that stick out of your ass. You attacked OS for using the word "toy" under a mere assumption that anyone who refers to firearm as a "toy" may somehow be irresponsible and will not treat their gun with respect. Loosen up a bit, will ya? There are responsible people in this world besides you, believe it or not.
