Is it ok for kids to play card games - no or yes? Examples in post

I've been playing cards ever since I was able to read the numbers. I see no reason to keep kids from playing.

i dont see why not. every year, during the new year (chinese new year), the whole family would gather and gamble. the kids would gamble for nickel and dimes and the adults would gamble for more money. dont see a problem with letting kids play cards, especially if it is not for money.

not only should kids be playing cards... they should be playing games like 'kings'. and not with juice boxes, either. 😉

Note to ppl frustrated with the OP - I simply wanted to see the range of opinions after having an opinion expressed to me irl. . .

Keep posting thoughts 😉

Could you give is their reason for saying no? I honestly can't think of one, besides the parent being a total nutcase that is.

Um, is there some obvious reason that this would be controversial? Why the hell wouldn't it be OK? 😕

That's what I was wondering. I haven't heard of anyone that went out and killed people because he wsa playing War at home and just got so worked up... Unless he lost 2 Aces flipped down during a big war round.

Cards will teach kids:
1) Realism, you won't always win. Sadly with the misguided 'self-esteem' movement this lesson is often forgotten.
2) Math, probability, and statistics.
3) Value of money. A $1 poker chip bet isn't the same as a $100 poker chip all-in bet. So many people grow up and can't tell you the difference.
4) Social skills.
5) Strategy and logic.
6) Planning and following out that plan.
7) I could go on and on.

While the kids are learning all of that, they are having fun in a safe mannor. Instead of doing drugs or roaming the streets, they are at home with friends/family.

It was a religious reason.

I don't know what's wrong with all of you people; obviously it's not okay! If your kids are playing card games, they obviously have too much time on their hands. It is your duty as a parent to instill a mighty work ethic in to them by ensuring that their time as kids is devoted towards working for others. Go make them mow the lawn, do their homework, mine for coal, mix you a drink, and if you're even really hard up on things to do, give them to a soup kitchen; but never, never let them have free time to "play," it will encourage them to be weak and lazy.

😉

Do your kids have much fun playing in their padded rooms, watching censored Disney movies?

Cards are the devil! If they have that much free time they should be praying to Jesus their lord and savior.
