Is it normal to have trouble with accents?

Some girl had a strong southern accent in when she moved here about a month ago....I don't know what she did or why it happened so quickly, but she doesn't have it anymore.

i can understand people with accents fairly well, but i could never understand or even stand to listen to heavy southern speak.

you guys should listen to my data structures ta speak. Talk about heavy accent.
Also, i know some people that live in Tennasee, so its diffiucult to understand their accent at times, but we manage.
