That sounds like more than you need. You must be a freshman. You will learn by your sophmore year that you only take your linens, towels, and only the clothes that will fit in the dresser they give you. That should be no more than 3 or 4 boxes. Then you have a computer, a single.. solitary computer, TV and 1 or 2 game systems. I say 1 or 2, because on a college campus, the friends you make are likely to have anything you don't bring. You can just play/borrow theirs and save yourself the space and boxes. Trust me here. With a computer like the one you described, there really isn't much reason to bring a stereo, either. Just wasted space. Not to mention that any stereo worth bringing gets you frequent visits from the people above and below you, and sometimes the stupif softball players down the hall who like to go to bed at 7 O'clock on Friday night. Whatever.
5 boxes max, really. I suggest buying a foot locker or a trunk or something, putting all of your computer stuff in there, save for the monitor and tower. That way, you also have some extra room for extra clothes that you might get while you are at school. Get one study enough, and it doubles as a seat.
Bring a toothbrush, but not shampoo, soap, etc. It takes too long to truck all that stuff upstairs, especially on move-in day, when everyone else is taking all their crap.
Set aside about $100 to buy groceries and shampoo and the like when you get their. Not only is is cheaper around college campuses, but that, again, is less you have to worry about unpacking, etc. You don't realize how much of a mess move in day is until you go through it once. Then you laugh the next year when you see some stupid freshmen showing up with a freakin' U-Haul loaded to the roof.
Most important advice ever:
You will likely be home once or twice before X-Mas break anyway, so if you don't need something, keep it at home until you've been there a while and know you need it. People end up taking so much CRAP to school only to have it sit around forever.
NEVER take all of your CDs in jewel cases. Grab a huge CD binder and put them in there. Just make sure you stick it somewhere safe so it doesn't get stolen.
