is it normal for my dsl modem to disconnect once a day?

i just got earthlink dsl and the speed is good, 2.5Mb down and 320Kb up...connection is fairly stable but i do experience a disconnect maybe once a day sometimes twice. it usually lasts about 1 minute or so. it's not that big a deal since it's so short but i was just wondering if this is normal for you dsl users? thanks in advance!
 
Many broadband companies will do this (and often give you a new IP address at the same time) to prevent people from running dedicated servers on their home computers.
