Is it normal for a 14 year old to get his wisdom teeth pulled?

So the little brother of one of my friends is getting his teeth pulled..and he's 14!

Isn't that a tad early?

Sounds early to me. Then again, I have yet to have mine out.

if they are coming in and messing up the rest of his teeth than no.
Probably had to get them out so braces could fix his teeth.

i got mine taken out when i was 14 or 15. My 12 year molars couldnt grow into until they were out.

And yes, it was paintful. specially since you have to dig them out since they werent out yet.

friend of mine got his out at 15 or 16. its uncommon, but that doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem.

doesn't sound early; i had a friend who had his out when he was 15. i had mine out when i was 15 too

My friend had his out at 15. (He's born on the same day as me) I personally will not have to have my wisdom teeth out because I don't have any on my lower jaw and the ones on my upper jaw never came in fully and even if they had they would have had plenty of room. There's a huge range on people.

Getting them out early could mean a few things. Either they were worried about them messing up the alignment of his teeth. Or sometimes they come in at such an angle that they are hitting the roots of the 12 year molars in front of them. This can lead to a need for a root canal in the 12 year molars so they would probably take them out. It will hurt a little more because they are probably all at least partially impacted, but better than an unnessecary root canal.

PS. My mom has been a dental hygeniest since I was 1 so i hear a lot about teeth in my house.

no, its not. There is no such thing as 'normal' it depends how the wisdom teeth are emerging. If they are troubled and he has to get braces it would explain why they are getting removed so early.

I had mine taken out when I was 15, because I didn't want to have them mess up my teeth. There was hardly any pain exept for getting over the pain killers.

Its normal for someone that age to get a vasectomy so I don't see why not.

This is one of the few things in life I completely dread. I have yet to have mine pulled and I hope I won't have to.

its not weird. my orthodontist ordered my teeth pulled when i was 14. so i can get braces.

They are probably causing problems or his dentist has his eye on a new boat.

why is everyone scared of getting their wisdom teeth out..i had mine out and was in pain for 1 day. no swelling or infections. I found wearing a retainer when i was a kid was more painful than takin my wisdom teeth out

i had my wisdom teeth out (all four) and as back to work by 10am...I ate lunch that day too ...the worst part was my mouth was number for about 2-3 hours and blood kept pooling in my keyboard and on my desk

Hopefully it's not your friend's little brother's parents wishing for the perfect smile and model / actor career future.

My ex-wife's mother had so much stuff done to her teeth that she had major jaw problems (ok some were my fault ) all the time.

Her mom had one of her front teeth pulled even and then braces to pull everything together....she became a great singer, she was a great dancer too and beautiful, but was 'marketed' terribly.

Parents can really mess their kids up trying to get rich / live vicariously through them.

Had mine out at 17.5 years of age. My sisters both had theirs out ~19/20.
