Is it me or Miss Universe contestants get uglier every year?

So, I don't really follow the pageants though I watched several in the 90s and they happened to be airing it, but I do remember all the contestants being smoking hot.

Today I was browsing some old folders in the computer and I found a zip file with pictures from the 2006 pageant I never bothered to watch so I opened it and was surprised to find that about 30% of contestants are not only plain looking, but downright ugly.

WTF? is Miss Universe a personality contest now? I don't consider myself superficial but if I'm watching a beauty contest on tv I don't care if you're worried about the mapless people of the world miss, just put on that bikini and parade around :|

are they ugly? no. but they are not what you think of when you talk about Miss Universe
 
I'm not sure what the deal is with you guys, neither if miss universe is a beauty contest; but if it is. they're doing it wrong.
