is it me or is it window?

Hello, I recently replaced my venice 3200 with opteron 165. I reinstalled window xp. Now when I try to shut down or restart the system with "start >> turn off computer >> restart/shut down", I actually have to do it 2 times. For example, if I press restart 1 time, it shuts some off my programs off, then I have to press restart 1 more time and the system shuts all the rest of the programs off to restart. Is it me or does anyone else have this kind of problem when they move from single to dual core. Thanks in advance.
ps: I keep hearing AMD drivers for dual core, is that what I needed? where could I get one?

here is some info on optimizing your system for dual core. i have an x2 3800+ and i don't have that issue, so it's likely windows or driver related.

Some program or service is likely hanging when it recieves the shutdown message. Then when you go back and hit shutdown again it is either done shutting down, or it responds properly, or the system can't get a response and terminates it. To test this, use msconfig to set boot to diagnostic mode, and see if it still hangs on shutdown. Diagnostic mode gets rid of the vast majority of services and device drivers that are running in normal startup mode. Also, check the event log for event messages in the system and application logs. It's possible something isn't handling the dual core correctly. Definitely do install the latest/most stable chipset drivers for your platform, and the AMD XP X2 processor drivers. You may or may not need the AMD "dual core optimizer." It depends on whether you play games.

You can find all the AMD stuff in the support area of their website. The platform drivers are either available from nVidia, Via, or your motherboard OEM.

thanks for the inputs.
I'll try to run window in safe mode and see if the same thing persists.
I do games, I tried that optimizer and it's not helping at all. My problems are not with games.
If all doesn't do, I'll try to update chipset driver.
Thanks again.
