Is it me or are these stores going insane with the mail in rebates?

Yes that's right you too can get a 200gb hard drive for $49. Pay $179.99 up front, and send in 5 mail in rebates for $40, $30, $30, $20, and $10. Send all 5 rebates to different places and expect 4 of the 5 to get "lost".

I'm to the point I just won't buy anything that has a mail in rebate anymore. I don't want to waste my time fighting with rebate centers who claim they lost my rebate or I supposedly didn't fill something out right.
I'm suprised people put up with this stuff.

WE got good...
THEY got even...

I buy stuff that is a good deal without rebates, but I send in all rebates on crap I buy, and if I get them back, it is a bonus.

I'd hardly call dealing with these crook rebate centers the thrill of the chase. I pretty much only deal with the rebates straight from the manufacturers these days.

What amazes me is the types of products that come with rebates any more...

Beer? Razor blades? Tooth paste? WTF???

i dunno about you, but I always get my rebates in.

Most of the people just sit on their asses when it comes to rebates and not receiving them. I know technically you shouldn't HAVE to do anything once you mail out your rebates, but a little organization w/ your forms/receipts/UPC codes and a check up call after a month, you shouldn't have any problems w/ rebates.

If I don't hear anything about confirmation or anything after a month, I give the customer service a call. And if there is a problem, it always gets fixed.

Just take some precaution and you'll be fine.

What's the most pathetic are the $1 mail in rebates. $.37 for the stamp $.10 for the envelope. So I spend 47 cents and waste 15 minutes, to get $1 back? I'm just waiting for the 50 cent mail in rebate.

rebates are a huge scam. they count on people to not send them in and a good part of the ones sent in they deny.

Hardly anyone sends them in, so it's really not costing the company much, but they can still advertise a low "after rebate" price.

yeah, im getting fed up with them also. usually i stall out for instant rebates or just do price matches. i *WILL* do a MIR for CostCo though, because you can submit it online. why oh why CostCo are you so great?!?!

I've become much more selective in the places that I submit rebates to. The worst is CompUSA, they are probably the worst in terms of rebates. Their rebate house, TCA Rebates has had hundreds of complaints with their local BBB. They've had so many problems that they had to change their address, people had stopped sending rebates to New Rochelle, NY because of the problems with TCA. Now TCA rebates go to Niagara Falls, NY.

On the flip side, I've never had problems with Costco, Staples, and Circuit City rebates. The problem sometimes is finding out where the rebates are going to before buying the items. Some manufacturers use TCA rebates as well.

I used to keep track of all my rebates. Now I've sent in so many I don't even know which ones I haven't gotten. Laziness on my part...there's probably a bunch I'll never see

Where can I find rebate forms for beer? I'll retire tomorrow!

I despise rebates. When I see the tiny print that says "after rebate" I roll my eyes and move on. I do a lot of eye rolling when browsing the Sunday paper inserts! LOL.

I avoid rebate offers anymore unless they are instant. Like i bought a 260GB hdd saturday for $149cdn.. with a $50 coupon. That was a good deal in my opinion.. didnt have to wait 3 months for the $50 to be refunded, that is, if they didnt lose the paperwork.
