Is it legal to bring meat across border from Canada?

StageLeft

No Lifer
Anybody know for sure? I'll be coming across the border and my friend wants me to bring a bunch of peperoni for him. I'm flying with checked in luggage but I think the drug sniffing dogs would go ape-sh*t over this, so carry on might be better but I'm unsure of the laws 🙂

People go hunting in canda from the US all the time and bring the meat back. Bringing some pepperoni shouldn't be a problem.

Drug sniffing dogs won't have any reaction to it. We bring back foods all the time from Canada. Never meat (only leftovers from chinese food) but I don't see how that would make a difference.
Just put the stick down your pant leg. When they ask you if you have anything to delcare when you get back into the US, just grab on to it and tell them "Yes, 12 inches of pepperoni"
you'll have no problems 😉

Edit - yeah, that's right MrBond. My friend's parents go hunting up there all the time and bring back caribou and bear and crap like that.
And I had to edit my bad joke.

At worst, they'll confiscate it. You'll only get into trouble if you lie to them. I do think you can bring it in. Mostly its fruits, vegetables, and live animals that you can't.

BTW, what's so great about canadian pepperoni?

Other than the fact it kicks ass, it also kicks ass. It's some tasty stuff! The main problem is that nowhere in Alabama sells anything that remotely resembles it. Everything here is either slim jims or cooking sausages. The stuff I want is the stuff u get at corner stores out of the fridge and just eat it cold.

As long as it looks like it is for personal use and you declare it, they should not bother you about it.

You could ask before hand to make sure.

or just stuff it down a pant leg😀

Maybe only the Mrs would know the difference😉

Don't smuggle it in - make a full disclosure to the Customs folks.

If it is prepared, it just might make it in. Worst case scenario is that the Customs folks take it from you.

I was afraid you were going to bring in some of that vile peameal bacon I was once served in Toronto. Now that oughta be illegal!

You'll have to stock up if you're ever in Atlanta. The Dekalb Farmer's Market around the corner from me has a whole case of different kinds of sausage....everything from brats, andouille, etc for the grill to about a zillion kinds of salami and other hard sausages...they'll even slice prosciutto for you.

Aside: where are you in 'Bama? Sorry you couldn't make it to the geek-fest at LastKnight's last weekend. We'll have to drag you to the next one.🙂

I welcome Canada to retain full, exclusive and worldwide rights to peameal bacon. 🙂

...these Nutella-lovers....for cryin' out loud....
