So everyone is saying:
"far cry 2 is going to be the best game ever"
Mouse acceleration... cant play

"Fallout 3 is an amazing game"
Mouse acceleration... cant play

"Bioshock wins game of the year"
Mouse acceleration... cant play

Is there something im missing? Or is there a way to get around this innate mouse acceleration...

Decrease the mouse acceleration from the in-game options?

I'm not sure what you're talking about, but my games have no mouse acceleration-related problems, many of which are ports. The only one I can think of is the famous after-patch Fallout 3 cursor acceleration bug in the main-menu and in-game to some extent, which was introduced after the second official patch if I remember correctly, but it has been fixed since then, if not there's a simple .INI tweak to fix that manually. But other than that I honestly can't think of any recent games being ports in which I have any such issues, and my mouse is a USB mouse (MX518 more precisely), but I'm not using any official drivers for it, I just leave the Windows default settings for the mouse untouched and everything is fine.

Where are these menus you speak of? Dont want to sound bitter, but those are the 3 recent games ive come to own, and none of them have any option of decreasing the mouse acceleration.

Farcry 2 is especially bad, if i move my mouse REALLY slow the game doesnt even move the cursor
Bioshock is like farcry but to a lesser extent

Ive looked for fixes but they all come down to "disable vysnc", im like do you guys even know what vysnc does?

vsync is vertical sync, in periods of high motion the graphics may have trouble keeping up. You may get an effect called tearing, where part of the screen is out of sync with the other part. It can improve performance if disabled but potentially lead to graphics anomalies.

Mouse acceleration is controlled through whatever controlling software you have for your mouse.

EDIT: In looking at your description of the issue, you might want to look for an update to your Chipset software. Whenever I have I/O issues that's usually where I start. Also, check your event viewr to make sure you don't have some polling issue (Control Panel -> Administrative tools). I remember a faulty NIC causing really jerky mouse motion.

i played all three of those games and never had this problem. i think it is something with your computer. what mouse do you have? do you have any software installed for it?

I know what mouse acceleration is. I haven't had any problems with two of the three listed games (never played Farcry2). Bioshock and Fallout3 both easily respond to very slow mouse movements.

I have an MX518, default windows driver. I have never touched any of Windows' mouse settings. They're whatever is default for Windows 7. I only use the buttons on the mouse itself to up the tracking DPI.

Point/Case

Please refrain from saying there is no mouse acceleration if you do not have it disabled

Of course your mouse responds the same way as it always does, because its naturally on for you

I'm with you...console ports have terrible mouse-feel. I don't know how to describe it or what the problem is. Farcry 2 was especially bad and completely unplayable for me as well.

Its definitely our chipset software lol! I think thats my new favorite answer, because turning off vsync can actually fix mouse problems (read: delay not acceleration)

Im done with this thread though; was mostly just a rant on how bad ports are for us gamers that dont use accel, but a whole bunch of default settings people came and shit all over this thread

It's just you. I had no problems playing any of those games.

Played Fallout 3 a lot and still working on Bioshock. Played Far Cry 2 on a friend's PC and didn't have any issues.

PLEASE SHOW ME WHERE I SAID THERE WAS NO MOUSE ACCELERATION.

I simply said I had no problems with the games.

Maybe it's a personal, rather than a software, issue that makes games "impossible to play" with mouse acceleration on?

Definitely your chipset software? As far as trolls go, that's pretty crappy considering the post you're misquoting is only a couple of responses above the attempt. I just suggested that if you're having issues others are not having to look into available updates. By improve performance I thought it was obvious I meant graphics performance. How it relates to mouse could be polling, but not the 1st place I'd look.

Perhaps if you were clearer in your initial post, others wouldn't have taken it as a help me fix the issue thread but let me complain thread instead.

EDIT: It's not surprising that systems designed for business do not cater to the gamer, which represents a small portion of the buyers. But I think that's why acceleration was added, I'd assume, variations in hardware configurations and software are why they're on a sliding scale. At one time I turned off acceleration but turned it back on when I ran into similar issues to what you're describing. I played around with polling and hold times, it was still jerky and/or slow (though I went down that path a long time ago). Let's face it, if a system is designed around moving a pointing device to manipulate a spreadsheet or document you simply don't need to worry about throughput.

I'm totally lost. I have it disabled and I don't have any acceleration issues

PC FPS's have had mouse acceleration since quake. i have no idea why someone would want to play with no acceleration, who the hell wants to have to move their mouse two feet to spin a 180?

Mouse acceleration I have no problems with playing with. What I don't like is input lag, which does come from having vsync enabled.

if you mean "enhance pointer precision" under control panel -> mouse, then yes i have that enabled and i always assumed this turned on mouse acceleration. so this is bad for gaming?

I do seem to recall a similar issue with Far Cry 2 but I fixed it. I assumed through the in game menu.
