What really makes me laugh are the people who keep trying to justify the measly 200hp that this car has. They keep saying that it doesn't need the extra horsepower as it's not heavy. Uhuh, sure. If this car had 250-300hp, they'd all be singing praises that it's the best car in the world, even more so than they do now. We all know that the 200hp, while still a good number, is fairly inadequate to really compete with other cars. Adding a turbo from the get go would have retained this car's handling prowess but would have also allowed it to be quick off the line as well as coming out of a turn. All this BS about how it doesn't need more hp is just that, BS.

I think 300hp is the magic number. Perfect.
 
I really want to see a shootout between this and an RX-8. I really don't see why people should choose this car over getting a used RX-8 (or two for the price of the BRZ.)

Exactly. The RX-8 is an awesome car with a garbage motor. The BRZ motor is pretty small too but at least the fuel economy is decent.

I have a feeling that when a turbo'd version comes, it will tip the scales at ~3000 lbs thanks to the turbo/intercooler/exhaust upgrades along with a strengthened transmission/differential and bigger wheels/tires.

It would have been great if they had just designed the car from the ground up with something like GM's LNF motor. 220 - 230 HP/TQ and 30+ MPG would have been ideal.
 
I was interested in this as well, until I was hit with the 200HP 6.5s 0-60 performance.

My Mitsubishi Eclipse from the late 90's was better than that 😀 I'm betting this car could have been a LOT faster, but they didn't want to step on the toes of the WRX STI.

Heeeyy....no hatin' on the Wankel engine!

But yeah, it's one of those engines where you get in the car and hope it starts.

i agree. for me it was the abysmal torque (150 ft/lbs) and the designer alluding to the car having a turbo, eventually...

I'm not even sure a turbo would save it. It needs a bigger engine...period.

They could do something like Porsche does with it's cars: make a wimpy base version, and the S version that kicks ass.
 
Why don't they give it the 3.6L flat 6? Or make a 3.0L 6 based on the existing 2.0L... if it scaled up to 300hp and 225ftlb that would be good.

that would have been nice. all the reports on the internet state that there is room behind the engine. having the extra two cylinders would make more power and still allow them to keep their precious 86x86 bore and stroke.

Something about the shitty design of the the wankel engine that blow up apex seals, get 12mpg, zero torque at any rpm...

i had a coworker that bought one the the special "shinka" editions of the RX-8. it was terrible. after he bought the car the salesman at the dealership told him that he should let the car run in for about 5 minutes after driving before turning off the engine. my coworker stated that it had to do with some BS about seals; and expansion and cooling. so there were days that he would leave it running and then forget about it for a few hours before he turned off the car. needless to say his MPG was even more abysmal than normal RX levels.

lol, they were smart...now someone struggles for a low-priced and sort of fun car and spends the 5 years or so until they move on talking about their V8 swap to the next low-priced and sort of fun car.

I sort of wished I got to put the LS2 in my 240SX I wanted just to play with it a bit a first, but now with my M3 I don't have any regrets. Power and luxury + quiet and no harshness.

But then I rode in a LS9 E46 M3 as well and that was insane. However, not anything I want to drive daily as every creature comfort was removed.
 
Give me a TT 6-cyl (a la 90's Supra) and then we will talk. Bump up the price 10-15K, most folks wouldn't even bat an eye.

I think ending up with 30MPG highway is more than adequate in a sports type car. Many are probably wanting more aggressive gearing.
 
Saw a red BRZ in my development today. WTF? It's not even out yet and somehow the guy have it with an actual license plate. Not dealer plate/temp tag.
 
Subaru BRZ $25,495.
Scion FRS $24,930.

For $500 more, the Subaru give you GPS touch screen navigation & HID headlights. Not to mention the Subaru looks a lot nicer than the Scion.
 
Subaru BRZ price does not include $750 destination fee. Price difference with destination fee for both models is $1315.
