Is it just me or is Fred Thompson completely devoid of charisma?

I really have to wonder about Thompson. He had somewhat of a lackluster Senate career where he voted the safe conservative way. Then dropped that to go into acting
where all he had to do is follow the script rather than think on his feet or show leadership. Hardly the bio of a man who is convinced he has the needed vision the country requires and is willing to do the hard work it takes to see it reach fruition.

As far as Thompson, it's just too early and the polls don't mean squat yet IMO.

he hasn't even been in one debate. I think after a few debates we'll know better if he has any *staying power*.

Let me reiterate. The left is running scared of Fred. The attacks in this thread are a perfect example.

Thompson's first debate is tomorrow. I'll be watching if possible to see how he does.

and there's no chance our "attacks" are legitimate criticisms? ;)

I have but one guarantee for you guys. Our next President will suck. The only question is, how much will he/she suck compared to Bush?

Suck equally? (Thompson, McCain, Clinton)
Suck more? (Romney)
Suck much more? (Giuliani)
Suck slightly less? (Obama)

Lose/lose situation for Americans, I'm afraid. Is there a douchebag test for all political candidates? If you're not a total douche, we can't elect you, sorry? Bah.

That seems convenient, as real criticism looks like fake attack tactics. But I'm curious, do you just have a big mouth, or is there some actual point you disagree with? I notice that while you took a shot at the lefties "playing politics", you didn't actually say you disagree with any of the points raised here...

I don't think Thompson can be minimized. And in terms of the crowded far right pack he is in, he is polling quite well on what amounts to speculation. My personal take is that the Republican nominee will be either Giuliani or one from the crowded pack running from the far right. Even making a wild guess that 50% says its not Giuliana and another 50% that its going to be Thompson that emerges from the far right pack, that still gives only 25% odds the Republican nominee will be Thompson. But in a dozen person field, thats 3x times better than random chance.

As has been previously pointed out, Thompson has to remain credible after tomorrows debate, and then we will know more. But I take any polls with a huge grain of salt.
Unknown future events could work in anyone's favor or totally discredit any candidate. The most dangerous events for a given political party will be those events that occur between the time the nominations are made and the general election.

Time will tell.

Agreed.

Time will tell.

Indeed.

My take on Fred Thompson in last night's debate:

1. Rusty. It showed pretty weel that it was first and everybody else's 6th debate.

2. Uncomfortable. Particularly in the begining. I felt like maybe he was trying to counter for earlier critism about his not being up on all the issues. Looks like he was trying to get facts etc out instead of being confident and relaxed. But, seems to me the others did the same in their early debates, but they've moved on.

Most analyists seemed to think he did "OK". Didn't hurt himself, nor hit a home run.

But he needs to improve quickly and catch up. Unlike Rudy or Mitt, he doesn't appear close to ready t take on HRC etc.

EDIT: He did loosen up later and show some humor, a good thing IMO

I think Fred had a good debut. Perfect? No, but he showed he can stand there with the best of 'em. He didn't make any big mistakes and he appeared as a Statesman, particularly as Romney and Guiliani were bickering back and forth.
