Is it just me, or is Cisco completely out of line?

Certs mean nothing nowadays. The bubble burst a few years ago. Now its experience that matters.

Experience > Degree > Certs > Diploma > Nothing

get your parents to generate an electronic signature than fax it with the form filled out to them with your computer, that way you don't have to wait the 2 weeks of mail in and you don't have to pay kinkos 2 dollars.

you mean to tell me you are cisco certified and you chose to pay 2 dollars to kinkos instead of using your trusty PC and it's modem to fax?

🙂

Does anyone else see anything wrong with requiring two separate physically-parent-signed documents for passing a computerized test issued by leaders in the networking industry, that tests my networking skills -- all just to validate my already-earned status?
uhm, the router ate it?

Hmm. When I was 17, all I could think about was :beer:drinking:wine: (they changed to 21 that year :| ), and college girls (wouldn't turn 18 until a month into college). I mowed lawns for about $200 week.

Yeah they had computers way back when, but my senior year was a license to have fun and party. If this is your fun <shrug>.

Thanks, Millennium. Who needs these pesky certifications when the nearby fast-food restaurant is hiring? Of course, that's not outside enough... maybe I'll become a street racer, get me a girl, and spend time chillin'.

Underground: the problem is not getting the signature, the problem is getting any kind of physical signature back to Cisco. Did you even read the message?

Who needs to be a whiny bitch when they don't like the rules? Either Cisco is slow, or the mail lost it, or Cisco lost it. Why do you think they are out of line? When you GROW up you will understand people have to cover their asses, because Minors are immature and irresponsible little nitwits. Please don't give me the "I am different and quite mature" speech either. There is no reason for you to be SOOO upset over something so trivial. BTW, I seriously doubt you will find anything in IT without experience. You can have all the certs in the world right now, but they are only beneficial to someone who has experience. The only people that I have known to get IT jobs in the past year had EXPERIENCE. One had numerous certs as well, but that was only just an added benefit. I don't think you are quite understanding that a Cisco cert is not going to land you a job right now. Then again, why are you trying to act so serious as such a young age? You are setting yourself up for serious burnout. You can continue to reply back to me in a sarcastic manner, but when things don't go to plan, remember I told you so. Some of us have experience with the crappy IT job market... and know that experience talks, and certs walk.

Have you ever noticed that you have an anger management problem?

I am under 18. Last month I passed the Cisco Certified Network Associate exam. At the Prometric testing center, the nice lady shook my hand, handed me an embossed result document, to which she stapled a form that my parent has to sign and mail before I can become truly certified!!!

I go to their web site since I now have "privileged" access, just to look around, and I see this signature requirement... nearby they have a button saying that if I am 18 or over, I can just click it to accept their agreement. I tell you, it required A LOT of willpower not to click it. Unfortunately, faking your age is reason to become disqualified for this and all other certifications indefinitely.

I fill out the form, my parent signs it, and I choose to fax it because I don't want to wait for mail. Kinko's charged me two whole dollars to fax one black and white sheet to another state. Just a few days later, I become fully certified. Yay. I go to get special logos that I can use on a web page or a business card... surprise -- another form that my parent has to sign unless I am 18 or older!!! Fuming, I print it out, fill it out, get my parent to sign it, and choose to mail it this time so as not to bother with going to Kinko's and spending two bucks. I mailed it about two weeks ago.

Today, being certain that I can get the logos, I go online again and... the agreement prerequisite still stands -- the bastards either lost my mailed form or have not processed it yet, even though they specify that 10 days is the longest period I can expect to wait. I have no proof that I mailed the form, so I have to either mail a new one, fax a new one, wait until I turn 18, or forget about the logos.

Does anyone else see anything wrong with requiring two separate physically-parent-signed documents for passing a computerized test issued by leaders in the networking industry, that tests my networking skills -- all just to validate my already-earned status?

Just out of curiousity, when you graduate, you are going to a four year school, right?

I've seen a handful of people quit college before they graduate because they were being offered money for IT jobs. This was in 2000. They have since been laid off and can't afford to complete their degree.

Secondly, most IT jobs are 9-5. you can't work 9-5 and then complete a degree at a good school in the evening.

University > * for you in your life right now.

I don't have a modem in my PC -- I use a NIC.

And yeah, I plan to go to a four-year university. Not sure in what to major; maybe Computer Science, maybe Physics... I also wouldn't mind becoming a teacher of those subjects.

Just wait until you have to order hardware from them, I have never seen so many fvck-ups in my life, wrong power supply, wrong box completely. Tis fun being a 4 hour RMA contract holder though, especially ordering after 12 PST, you either gets Brits or Aussies filling out orders for you, then its REALLY fun.

spend the two dollars...remind me of that movie with the newspaper boy demandin "TWO DOLLARS" from John Cusack (don't remember the name, but maybe it was Better Off Dead or something)

TWO DOLLARS

Why do you think I was angry when I wrote that? I wasn't.

Hmmm, heres a thought....

Tough crap????
I mean seriously, think about it. If they are giving you these logos to use under specific conditions (i.e. you can only use them as long as you are certified, etc) and you are under 18. They have NO way of enforcing that. You can pretty much do what you want, when you want, because a minor cannot legaly engage in a contract on their own, with parental consent its a little easier, but more often than not if you break contract they just haul after your parents and you still get off.

Life sucks, get a f'ing helmet.

there isn't a single pc in your entire home w/o a modem? that's hard to believe as it is default equipment these days.

anyway, it'll teach you, get a modem.
